Brett
Kavanaugh is imminently qualified to be Donald Trump's man on the bench. He
certainly has the judicial chops to do the job. The only question is... what
job is that? By the same token Paul Joseph Goebbels was highly qualified to be the
Minister of Propaganda for the Third Reich. The biggest difference between then
and now is that back then Germany openly referred to propaganda AS propaganda.
There was no covert agenda at play.
In our contemporary
times, the Trump Administration denied that anything they say is in fact
propaganda and conversely everything anyone else says is. The simple fact that
the Trump Administration (read Trump, the man) is attempting to keep hidden a
huge amount of Kavanaugh's history of judicial opinion, executive advice and
personal positions that was created two Administrations ago during the George
W. Bush Presidency. Apparently what Kavanaugh said and did weighs heavily on
this administration and its agenda for America in the next 2 or 3 decades.
Not having
access to and being able to evaluate those documents is probably equally
detrimental to Kavanaugh's confirmation as HAVING access to the content of
those documents. That which we do know about the Brett Kavanaugh position on
several topics is in itself troublesome.
His opinion
that Presidents cannot be guilty of crimes committed while in office is the
greatest of those positions. His position on other extremely important topics
such as marriage equality, women's reproductive rights, corporate financial support
of Senators and Congresspersons, the ability of the Federal government to
protect the environment (people's health) and the entire Constitution are also
topics to be weighed against his obvious academic credentials.
Confirming
Kavanaugh for a lifetime job which will impact the lives of millions of
Americans and billions of global citizens without a compete process of vetting
is like buying a car without looking under the hood.
